Dear Friends,

Today’s cloudy skies and cooler temperatures are a welcome respite from last week’s heat. I wish we could send some of this much needed moisture to our western friends.

William Shakespeare once said, “How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world.” I have a wonderful story to share with you thanks to a letter I received this week from Beauty Crummette of Scottsville, Virginia. It made me realize again that you don’t always know what effect your words or activities will have on another person or even the future. Approximately 30 years ago Beauty chaired a committee of Nursing Alumni who planned a Centennial Celebration for the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Nursing on the Medical College of Virginia campus. Part of the celebration involved a fundraiser to create a means to recruit and retain excellent faculty members. In support of this mission, I created the paintings Nurse’s Parade and The Visiting Nurse. With the sales of these paintings and prints, the college received over $300,000 in gifts and pledges. Beauty then writes, “The money was used to create an endowed fund. This fund has supported faculty members over the years but through a wise investment strategy it has now grown to over $2.3 million.” This truly underscores the profound developments that can occur from just a ripple. To read the full letter, please follow this link, www.mosscollectors.com/letter_73121_nurse.pdf

The 2 paintings that I did for VCU-MCV have been sold out for a long time. However
The Visiting Nurse image was made into an ornament in 2005 and is still available for purchase for $38.

I hope to see all of my southwestern Virginia friends this weekend as the P Buckley Moss Gallery of Blacksburg hosts an open house starting Friday, August 6th, and running through the 8th. For those of you who have attended or been affiliated with Radford University, look for the display of the special new print I have created for you. It is titled The Fountain, Radford University. This special commemorative print is in honor of Together – The Campaign for Radford University. Proceeds from the sale of The Fountain, Radford University, will benefit the P Buckley Moss Teaching Scholarship at Radford. This scholarship was created to support those dedicated individuals who have made the commitment to become teachers. The scholarship is funded by limited edition prints of the university.

The Fountain, Radford University is available in 2 sizes. Small: $125, IS: 9-1/2 x 16 ins. and Medium: $325, IS: 15-1/8 x 25-1/2 ins. Edition: 1,250 and 25 artist's proofs.

During your gallery visit, don’t forget to look for the summer themed gift basket that will be given away this weekend. For updated show information, please contact the gallery at 540-552-6446
.

Until next week,

Love,
