Dear Friends:

Pat has been enjoying her Quilt Camp at Sea Cruise with her daughter Mary; and, even though she previously said that she did not want to go zip-lining, she did anyway on Tuesday with Mary in Costa Rica!  “Never say never!”

Pat, enjoying the zip-line in Costa Rica.

Here are a few more pictures from their adventures, with more to come when they return:

One of the places Pat and Mary visited last week was the island of Curaçao in the Caribbean Sea, which is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.  Rif Fort is a 19th century fort that is currently used as a shopping mall.

They enjoyed a beautiful day in Cartegena, Colombia.

This picture of the Gatun Locks at the Panama Canal was taken on Monday.  The Panama Canal celebrates its 100th Anniversary this year.

In the meantime, Pat’s son Chris and daughter Becky attended the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art’s 2014 Founder’s Day and the Peter Cooper Block Party on Sunday, April 13.  On Pat’s behalf, Chris accepted the inaugural Peter Cooper Public Service Award that was given to Pat by the Alumni Association.  Chris read an acceptance speech from Pat that included:  “I am forever grateful for those special teachers and mentors who inspired and encouraged me along the way.  Experiencing a genuine dedication to helping others taught me the true value of selflessness, and showed me first-hand the difference that a single caring individual can make. Through the P. Buckley Moss Society and the P. Buckley Moss Foundation for Children’s Education, I have had the life-changing opportunity to band with over 8,000 like-minded friends, across 26 chapters, to promote charitable endeavors nationwide.”

The plaque portion of the award reads:  The Alumni Award for Achievement from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, Founded in AD 1859 by Peter Cooper, Pioneer Educator, Philanthropist, Inventor and Mechanic of New York.  The wording on the golden pencil reads:  The 2014 Peter Cooper Public Service Award to Patricia Buckley Moss, Class of 1955.

’Til next week,
