Dear Friends:

It was like Mother Nature knew it was the Blue Ridge Parkway's 75th Anniversary this past weekend. Everything was glorious, including the weather. Maybe I'm partial, but I think Virginia's portion of the Parkway is the best. There were tons of visitors for the festivities, and many of them stayed at campgrounds and had a great time. I attended the Commemorative Ceremony at Cumberland Knob Friday morning, and I was in very good company. Virginia's Governor Bob McDonnell was there, as well as North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue, who flew in on a helicopter. I really enjoyed her talk.

My daughter Patty and I had a great time with Kay Weddell, owner of The Framer's Daughter in Galax, showing in the Breezeway of the Blue Ridge Music Center. I also spent some time signing at the gallery Friday night, and it was such fun seeing all my old friends.

Working together with my friends Charlie, Evelyn, and Rachel Griffen.

Our finished masterpiece!

Katherine Hodge, far right, and her friend Christine Bonderkant sold raffle tickets on this beautifully framed Promised Land to benefit The Community Christmas Store in Salem, VA.

Next weekend, September 24-25, I'll be showing with my friends at Berlin Creek Gallery in Berlin, Ohio. I've created a special new print edition for the show, featuring the Zoar Hotel in historic Zoar Village. We'll kick-off the weekend with a fundraising event at Zoar Village on Thursday, September 23, to benefit its ongoing preservation efforts. There will be a walking tour, a harvest festival-theme dinner in Zoar's historic schoolhouse, and a ghost tour. The Zoar Hotel is said to have its very own ghost, known as "George," whom I included on the front porch of my painting.

Autumn at the Zoar Hotel will be released as a limited edition giclée on paper during my show with Berlin Creek Gallery September 24-25. For more information, please contact the gallery at 330-893-2686.

Zoar Village was founded in 1817 by a group of about 200 German Separatists seeking escape from religious persecution in their homeland. Today, Zoar is a community of approximately 75 families living in homes built from 1817 to present. Many of the original homes have been preserved or restored, as have the many buildings and museums maintained by the Ohio Historical Society. The Zoar Community Foundation also strives to ensure the preservation of the historical characteristics and heritage of the village and the surrounding area. For more information on the September 23 events at Zoar Village, please contact Berlin Creek Gallery at 330-893-2686.

Love,
Pat
